Dr. Killan, Principal KUC
It is my pleasure to welcome new and all returning King’s students. I am grateful to the King’s University College Students’ Council (KUCSC) for asking me to submit a brief note for this website. It gives me an opportunity to extol the virtues of our student leadership. What every student quickly discovers upon arriving at King’s, is the important role played by KUCSC within the College community. Essentially, Orientation is in the hands of KUCSC–and no one does Orientation more effectively than they do. Savour every moment of the Orientation process. Dozens of you new students will be seeking to serve as Sophs in the years ahead after you experience the most dynamic and welcoming university entry process in the country.

Your KUCSC will also be at your beck and call throughout the academic year. Students’ council serves as the primary conduit for expressing student needs and desires to the administration and the board of directors. Thanks to council’s work, the idea of constructing a new building to focus on student life and services has become the centrepiece of the emerging capital campaign about to be launched by the King’s College Foundation. Your council has also represented you well in bringing about improvements in our campus food services. Relations with the city and our neighbors have been assiduously cultivated in recent years by KUCSC. New projects have been introduced–the sports pad last year, and the note-worthy lecture series to be launched this year featuring such luminaries as Ralph Nader and David Suzuki.

All in all, your students’ council is there to assist you, and, I must confess, council is also there to assist the administration and the board build a better College community, one that gives priority to the student academic and social experience.
